AFRICAN WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT (AWE) NETWORK
The African Women’s Empowerment (AWE) Network, is a series of short workshops and seminars educating Pan African women and girls (and sometimes men and boys) on becoming increasingly engaged in community issues (i.e., education, transit, recycling, voting, accessing resources, etc). Past and recurrent foci include health education, financial literacy, environmental issues especially recycling and use of non-toxic household cleaners, understanding the Bottineau Light Rail line for residents in the Northwest Hennepin area, civic engagement and Minnesota Law. The program reaches over 500 women and girls in seminar settings and over 9,000 Africans through a variety of media including newspaper, radio, email groups and Facebook ads.
