DIRECT SERVICES TO WEST AFRICAN REFUGEES & ASYLEES
AS OF 2016, THIS PROGRAM NO LONGER EXISTS BUT MAWA STAFF ASSIST CLIENTS WITH REFERRALS TO ORGANIZATIONS THAT DO PROVIDE THESE SERVICES.

- electricity, phone or water shut offs
- MFIP childcare reimbursement (for family providers)
- legal issues such as affidavits to substantiate marriage, birth, death, custody
- juvenile court proceedings
- health care issues
- immigration
- employment
- children in school
- job search
- etc.
The Minnesota African Women’s Association, MAWA, offers direct services to West African refugees and asylees who have lived in the United States for 5 years and less (arrived after 2000) in the Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn Center and North Minneapolis neighborhoods.
